ecentricarts Turns 12!

March 02, 2012 / Outside The Box

After a dozen years of working in the digital services sector we’ve got a lot of stories to share. Heck, we could write enough stories to fill quite a few books! The first book might be about the pace of technological change and it’s impact on those who take a bit longer to get moving; the second might be on the nature of servicing digital clients – and how we differ from other service agencies (a hagiography for sure) and the third, perhaps the most compelling of them all, would be on the nature of geek love – the ribald and naked truth about bits and bobs. But this is a blog – a list will have to do.

Let this list be about A Dozen Virtual Real Things

1

30 Geeks Strong

We’ve just hit 30 staff this week – big enough to cause severe company-wide weight gain if we all got a birthday cake on their birthday. The official Happy Birthday Everyone Day is April 1st – no fooling. Cheers!
Lars, our longest-serving employee offers a toast to all geeks - BAZINGA!

2

2s & Noughts & 1 TC43

We incorporated the company on 22/2/2000 at 20:22:00. 1 year later we acquired TC43 Inc., to fulfill on the ecentricarts logo’s foretelling of 2 + 1. 12 years in, we can hardly remember the days before the alchemists Sean and Lars joined the fold.

3

Number 3 / Number 1

We are currently the #3 ranked Kentico Development Partner in the world. (#1 in North America)

4

4 Peacocks in the Kitchen

The latest ecentricarts inc. art purchase is an Afghan War Rug, now hanging in the kitchen, which features 4 Peacocks surrounded by Tanks. Or are they Phoenixes? Research needs to be done – any volunteers?

5

3.0 Around the Corner?

Just when you were getting used to all things 2.0 – can we talk about the future? These are the kinds of the conversations we are having with many people these days. Exciting (in the way that soothsaying can be exciting) and a bit like divining water while standing in a boat. So the important question becomes, where do we want to go – the options really are unlimited.

6

From 309 to 300, home of the Art Cube

We moved the office two years ago – same floor, different space – and gained 1,500 square feet, more windows and an Art Cube. Now we can watch even more condos go up around us and visit  contemporary art in the cube. Currently in the cube is Linda Nakanishi’s Hiroshige Hokusai Geisha, an upcycled collage made from How Magazine ad inserts.

Hairy Legs

Mally & Dingo the official company mascots find working with geeks very hands on kind of work. When not being pet by one geek or another they tend to search for meaning in wastebaskets, under the kitchen table, in PSD layers or sleeping.

9

1024 Technology Trends

So many new technologies, applications and gadgets – many have faded away and many are changing the very way we connect and interact, right now. You can’t really stop the volume of content and  functions being generated via technology but you sure can ask a lot of questions about how it can be made useful. Where’s your future?
